ELNORA, Ind. (AP) - State Police say they’re investigating the death of a man first thought to have been injured in a car crash as a homicide.

Police say two people reported seeing an injured man walking alongside a road near Elnora and called police about 5 a.m. Saturday. But the trooper who responded couldn’t find a sign of a crash or victim. The trooper later found the man lying along a cornfield near Elnora, about 95 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

The man identified as 40-year-old Aaron Michael Byers of Elnora was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police found Byers’ truck had crashed into some trees after driving through a cornfield about a mile away. But investigators say his death wasn’t a result of the crash and they’re investigating the death as a homicide.
