GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A 35-year newsroom veteran has been chosen as publisher of The Times of Gainesville.
The newspaper reported Saturday (https://bit.ly/1uxyv0k ) that Charlotte Atkins will begin in her new role on Oct. 6. As publisher, Atkins will oversee the content, operations and business functions of the newspaper and its website.
Atkins left her role as executive editor of the Rome News-Tribune in 2011 to begin serving as executive director of the nonprofit Cancer Navigators. She replaces Dennis Stockton, who announced his retirement in April.
Atkins was 13 years old when she began her career as a sports correspondent in her hometown of Eufaula, Alabama and is a graduate of Auburn University.
The Times is owned by Georgia-based Morris Multimedia which owns 31 daily and quarterly papers, and eight television stations.
