FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) - A traffic stop led Fort Lee police to recover more than $1 million worth of heroin.

A phony Florida license plate led Detective T.J. Cullen to stop the car with two men inside on Route 4.

Detective Capt. Stanley Zon tells The Record (https://bit.ly/YKQ0P3 ) newspaper Cullen arrested 30-year-old Ferdinand Morales of the Bronx and 24-year-old Jose Rodrigues of Manhattan after discovering a secret compartment that had $1,240 cash in it.

Zon says Cullen took Morales to his apartment building and searched a car in the garage where he discovered five kilos of heroin, $76,460 in cash and a handgun.

Morales is charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of a gun with hollow-point bullets, money laundering and immigration violations. Rodriguez is charged with money laundering.
