EDGARD, La. (AP) - A state judge in Edgard has sentenced 49-year-old Errol Victor to life in prison and his wife, 40-year-old Tonya Victor, 40, to 21 years for the beating death of her 8-year-old son M.L. Lloyd III in 2008.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1m64fbF) District Judge Mary Hotard Becnel handled down the punishment Monday during a sentencing hearing at the St. John the Baptist Parish Courthouse.

A jury found Errol Victor guilty as charged of second-degree murder on Aug. 1.

Tonya Victor was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter, which carries a discretionary sentence. Because the victim was younger than 10, she faced 10 years to 40 years in prison without benefit of probation or suspension of the sentence, according to state law.
