CONROE, Texas (AP) - Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson’s first court appearance in Texas on a child abuse charge has been delayed until October.

Peterson has been indicted on a charge of reckless or negligent injury to a child and faces up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine if found guilty. He said Monday he never intended to harm his 4-year-old son by spanking him with a wooden switch earlier this year.

His arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday, but it was delayed to Oct. 8 because his attorney, Rusty Hardin, is out of the country this week.

After benching him Sunday, the Vikings announced Monday that they had reinstated Peterson.
