MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Police in Mobile say they’re looking for the parents of a newborn baby who was abandoned on a porch.

Department spokeswoman Ashley Rains tells Al.com (https://bit.ly/1uHFYcf ) the baby girl was conscious when she was found Tuesday and is listed in good condition at a local hospital.

Police say the Secret Safe Place for Newborns program was created in 1998 and allows mothers to leave newborns with medical staff within 72 hours of giving birth without threat of abandonment charges.

The program was launched in Mobile County in 1998. Officials in the county district attorney’s office say the program has saved the lives of 15 Mobile County babies since it was launched.

Anyone with information on the baby’s parents is asked to call Mobile Police at (251) 208-7211.
