WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK, S.D. (AP) - Wind Cave National Park and Jewel Cave National Monument will be offering free tours Sept. 27 as part of National Public Lands Day.

Vidal Davila is the superintendent of Wind Cave National Park. Davila says Public Lands Day is the country’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands.

Davila adds that both caves are offering volunteer opportunities and will be part of the more than 2,200 sites across the country participating in the effort.

The Park Service says tours of Wind Cave’s Natural Entrance start at 9 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring sturdy walking shoes and a light coat as the cave is 54 degrees.

Jewel Cave visitors may choose either the Scenic Tour or Discovery Talk program. Tours begin at 9:20 a.m.
