BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - About 20 barrels of oil and five barrels of brine have spilled in Burke County after an equipment failure at an oil well.

Kris Roberts is an environmental geologist with the Department of Health. Robert says Oasis Petroleum owns the well on land is leases about nine miles northeast of Powers Lake.

Roberts says the spill sprayed onto a wheat field and wetland. All but two barrels of oil have been recovered. Absorbent booms have been deployed to contain the spill in the wetland.

Inspectors from the Department of Health and the Division of Oil and Gas are on site and monitoring the company’s response.
