HONOLULU (AP) - About 2,500 Hawaii Army National Guard soldiers will hold training next weekend to make up for drills cancelled by a budget shortfall earlier this month.
The Hawaii National Guard said Friday Congress approved a shift of funds at the National Guard Bureau to enable the drills to go forward.
The monthly drills were initially scheduled for Sept. 6-7. But they were cancelled when the Hawaii National Guard didn’t receive $1 million from the Guard Bureau for training as expected.
Overall, the National Guard Bureau suffered a $101 million funding shortfall. National Guard drills were cancelled across the country as a result.
