President Obama’s approval rating has dropped to a record low in California, according to a new poll that says only 45 percent of Golden Staters approve of how the president is handing his job.

The Field Research Corporation poll found that 43 percent disapprove of Mr. Obama’s performance, while 12 percent had no opinion.

Mr. Obama’s job approval has been in the dumps in recent months, but the new poll shows his numbers are lagging in liberal strongholds as well.

The president easily won California in the 2012 election against Republican Mitt Romney, 59-38 percent.

Politico reports that Mr. Obama’s approval rating in California had not gone below 50 percent since September 2011, with 46 percent approving and 44 percent disapproving in a Field Poll at the time.

In the new poll, just over half of Californian voters said the country is heading in the wrong direction, while 36 percent said it’s heading in the right one.
