BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Maritime Festival is underway on the city’s Lake Erie waterfront, where visitors can tour a reproduction of an early 19th-century warship.

The three day event began Friday afternoon with a boat parade into Buffalo Harbor.

The centerpiece of the festival is the U.S. Brig Niagara, based at the Erie Maritime Museum in western Pennsylvania. The Niagara is a two-masted sailing ship designed after the original vessel that served as Commodore Oliver Perry’s relief flagship during the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812.

Other vessels in Buffalo for the festival include the Tug DeWitt Clinton, owned by the New York state Canal Corp.

The festival at Canalside also features live music, food, an artisans’ market, a chowder competition, historical displays and guided tours.
