WHITE PINE, Tenn. (AP) - Police in northeastern Tennessee are warning travelers about a card game scam.
White Pine Police Chief Chad Cotter told WVLT-TV in Knoxville (https://bit.ly/XRKVDF ) that truckers are using the game to rob motorists refueling or resting at truck stops. Cotter says the game is called “Five Card Sally” and in one case, truckers stole $10,000 from the man and his wife, who were using the money to pay for their cross country trip.
During the game, cards are laid out and the target picks card and then shuffles it around. Cotter says the person has five cards and gets to pick which card is theirs. If they pick it, they get all of the money.
Cotter says often, though, the game is a scam and the truckers keep the money involved.
