HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hundreds of bicyclists are racing the streets of Hartford during the Connecticut Cycling Festival.

Amateur races got underway Sunday morning on an eight-corner course in the downtown area. A professional 40-mile contest is scheduled to start in the afternoon. The prize list totals $10,000.

There also are urban mountain bike races and 5K runs on Sunday. Festival-goers also can enjoy food and beverage vendors, live music and children’s entertainment.

The events are raising money for the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program, which aims to give young adults and youths access to the sport of cycling in schools and towns across the state.
