President Obama will host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next week, their first face-to-face meeting since Israel’s war this summer with Hamas militants in Gaza.

The White House said Mr. Obama will meet with Mr. Netanyahu on Oct. 1. The president will attend sessions at the United Nations in New York this week.

Egypt is hosting a round of indirect talks Tuesday in Cairo between an Israeli and a Palestinian delegation on stabilizing the border with Gaza. Hamas has used rocket attacks against Israel from Gaza, with Israeli forces attacking the militants in fighting that killed more than 2,100 people, mostly Palestinian civilians.
