LEBANON, N.H. (AP) - A former day-care director in New Hampshire has been charged with possessing child pornography.

The Valley News reports (https://bit.ly/1rtedUY) 53-year-old Michael Whelton of Enfield told police the images were sent to him through an online messenger account. He was using a laptop computer connected to his position at the Children’s Center of the Upper Valley.

Whelton worked there for two years before he was fired for unrelated reasons in July. The arrest affidavit said Whelton returned the laptop following his termination, which stemmed from allegations of embezzlement. Police searched the computer and found numerous images of child pornography.

Whelton’s lawyer, James Rosenberg, said he couldn’t comment on specifics because he hadn’t received the affidavit. He said there is no allegation that the pending charges relate to Whelton’s professional responsibilities.
