Faced with opposition by Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio and a dropped sponsorship, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade will allow a gay group march under its banner for the first time in the coming year, according to reports.

The parade’s organizing committee said Wednesday a group called [email protected] — a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender support group at the parade’s broadcaster — will march up Fifth Avenue on March 17, the Associated Press reported.

Committee spokesman Bill O’Reilly said additional gay groups can apply to march in future years, according to the wire service.

In the past, the gay community could only march with other groups under banners that did not identify them as gay.
