JAFFREY, N.H. (AP) - Synthetic drug abuse in New Hampshire is the topic of a public forum in Jaffrey.

The forum at 6 p.m. Tuesday is being led by two legislators, state Sen. Peggy Gilmour of Hollis and state Rep. Susan Emerson of Rindge.

The event at Conant High School will have a panel discussion and a question-and-answer session.

Last month, Gov. Maggie Hassan declared a state of emergency due to serious medical reactions in Manchester and Concord to the use of the synthetic drug known as “Smacked.”

Authorities say at least 41 people in the Manchester area experienced serious medical reactions to drugs known as “spice” that are chemically engineered substances similar to the active ingredient in marijuana. Concord police also have reported several cases.
