LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police in Las Vegas are making a public plea for help to find the killer of a 16-year old high school student who was shot multiple times as he sat with family members in a car at a busy intersection more than a week ago.

Lt. Ray Steiber (STY’-bur) said Monday that investigators think Jose Manuel Duran-Hernandez was an innocent victim, and his slaying was a random act.

Steiber says other motorists probably saw something when Duran-Hernandez was shot about 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Sahara Avenue and Decatur Avenue.

He says the assailant was in a dark-colored car that pulled next to the Pena car at a traffic light before words were exchanged and shots were fired.

Duran-Hernandez’s uncle drove to their home on Stampa Avenue before calling police.
