MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Sheriff’s officials in West Tennessee say a 15-year-old boy has been charged with bringing a loaded gun to school.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Chip Washington says a student told Hamilton High School administrators Tuesday that the teenager had brought a gun to school.

The 10th-grader was searched and found to be in possession of a semi-automatic .25-caliber pistol with one round in the chamber and two in the magazine.

Officials said the student told them he brought it to school for protection because of an off-campus fight.

A 14-year old boy was also detained for being in possession of brass knuckles.

Both students were taken to juvenile court. Each was charged with possession of a weapon.
