MASON, Mich. (AP) - A Lansing teen has been sentenced to 27-50 years in prison in the shooting death of a bystander last year.
An Ingham County judge sentenced 17-year-old Valentino Stewart on Wednesday in the June 2013 killing of 35-year-old Anthony Kye. Stewart was convicted as an adult in July of charges including second-degree murder.
Kye was standing outside his home when he was shot. Prosecutors say the target was someone Stewart had fought with but he wrongly pointed out Kye to his 19-year-old brother.
Prosecutors say Stewart was part of a local street gang.
His brother faces charges including murder. Twenty-eight-year-old Mark Williams pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder. He says he drove the teens to the scene but didn’t know who fired the fatal shot.
