PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) - Clallam County health officials advise people to stay out of Port Angeles Harbor water since treated but not chlorinated sewage has been released into the Strait of Juan de Fuca this week.

The Peninsula Daily News reports (https://is.gd/UzOTDa ) the treated sewage was released into the harbor for nearly 20 hours beginning Tuesday.

Health officials estimate 1 million gallons of insufficiently disinfected waste was released from a discharge pipe at a depth of 60 feet.

Although the risk of contamination is low, county health officials are advising the public to avoid recreational water contact in Port Angeles Harbor through next Wednesday.
