WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - A Bladen County man has been sent to 35 years in federal prison after an incident in January of 2013 in which he shot at two Wilmington police officers.
Area media outlets report that 38-year-old Jermaine Cordova was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty in March to being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition.
Authorities say in January of last year, Cordova hired a stripper to lure a man to her apartment where Cordova then ambushed and shot him. A few weeks later, Cordova was pulled over at a traffic stop by Wilmington police. He shot at an officer and then ran away exchanging fire with a second officer.
Authorities say Cordova was then involved in a standoff at a storage unit for several hours before finally surrendering.
