ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Friends have started raising money to help the wife and two young children of a slain Rochester police officer.

Authorities say 32-year-old Daryl Pierson was killed with a single shot fired Wednesday night by a man wanted for a parole violation who fled from a traffic stop.

A fundraiser hosted by youcaring.com had raised more than $18,000 by Friday morning.

Amy Pierson told the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester (https://on.rocne.ws/1nyZi6q ) that her slain husband was the “best father that you could imagine” to their 4-year-old son and 3-month-old daughter.

The parolee accused of shooting Pierson was hospitalized after being shot by the slain officer’s partner.
