PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota’s historical society is reminding residents to apply for property tax benefits for historic sites.

The historical society says Nov. 3 is the deadline to apply for the state’s eight-year tax moratorium for restoration and rehabilitation work that happened in 2014. Society director Jay Vogt says an eight-year delay is placed on property tax assessments for historic buildings that qualify.

The benefit is available for buildings listed on the National or State Register of Historic Places. The society approved 18 properties across the state for the program last year.

Vogt says the 18 projects represented over $7.5 million in private investments in historic buildings.
