BUCHANAN, Va. (AP) - Fire officials say a forest fire in Botetourt County has grown to about 300 acres.
The fire began on Monday on a mountain in Buchanan and broke over a ridge line on Tuesday.
Botetourt Fire and EMS Chief Jeff Beckner tells The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1Dt0zHr ) that low humidity and wind gusts helped the fire to spread quickly. After the fire began, steep and rocky terrain hampered firefighters’ efforts to reach it.
No injuries or property damage has been reported.
Beckner says firefighters could battle the fire until expected rain on Friday.
