HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaiian Humane Society says it plans to open a west Oahu location after receiving a land donation.

Honolulu news station Hawaii News Now (https://is.gd/gtYL8H) reports the land donation came from developer D.R. Horton.

Hawaiian Humane Society president and CEO Pamela Burns announced the plans Tuesday.

The 5-acre parcel ends a 15-year search for an expansion location.

The new location is expected to be part of the developing community of Hoopili.

The new location is twice the size of the current location at Moiliili.

No completion date for the project has been projected.

D.R. Horton vice president Cameron Nekota says partnering with the Humane Society “enhances the quality of life for many” in the region.
