NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) - A Pittsfield man convicted of raping a University of Massachusetts Amherst student in her dorm room has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.

Emmanuel Bile (BEE’-lay) was also sentenced Wednesday in Hampshire Superior Court to five years of probation. He was found guilty Monday of two counts of aggravated rape.

Prosecutors say the 21-year-old Bile, 18 at the time, was one of four men who participated in the rape of the 18-year-old freshman incapacitated by alcohol in October 2012.

The judge said at sentencing that Bile participated in “an alcohol-fueled, sex-crazed assault of horrific proportions.”

Bile’s lawyer said the sex was consensual.

Three others await trial.

The defendants were not UMass students, but knew the victim and went to visit her even though she had asked them not to.
