UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - A trial is underway for a central New York man charged with fatally stabbing a Pennsylvania teenager while the teen was visiting his girlfriend last summer.
Local media report that 41-year-old Pablo Contreras of Utica is on trial on a second-degree murder charge in the slaying of 19-year-old Eugenio Correa of Philadelphia.
Prosecutors say Correa was visiting his girlfriend in Utica last August when he met Contreras for the first time at a party. Authorities say the older man fatally stabbed the teen more than a dozen times during a confrontation on a street near the home where the party was held.
Contreras has maintained that he acted in self-defense.
The bench trial began Monday in Oneida County Court. Testimony resumes Tuesday.
