MIAMI (AP) - A Miami River cruise launches a monthlong poetry festival dedicated to delivering poems to all Miami-Dade County residents.

The “O, Miami” festival runs through April 30. Executive director P. Scott Cunningham says dozens of poetry projects, workshops, readings and other events will test “what’s possible when circulating poems among a community.”

Festival organizers promise to post poems on ice pops, lamp posts, fences and even urinals and other unexpected places.

The public can participate in several poetry writing projects, such as a radio contest for poems that take their forms from Miami-Dade County zip codes.

The festival begins Wednesday evening with the Miami River Poetry Cruise. Other festival events will highlight Afghan women writers, South Florida veterans and former U.S. poet laureate Kay Ryan.
