SIDNEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are trying to determine whether the death of an 80-year-old Sidney Township man is connected to a string of burglaries in the area.
Alan Nelson was found dead in his bed around 5 p.m. Monday. A neighbor who works in law enforcement went to check on Nelson and discovered his body after he failed to show up at a friend’s house for dinner.
The Michigan State Police believe Nelson was killed during a break-in sometime between Sunday evening and Monday morning. State Police say four homes in the neighborhood, including Nelson’s home, had been broken into.
The cause of his death hasn’t been announced, but State Police say Nelson was the victim of a homicide.
Sidney Township is in Montcalm County, about 40 miles northeast of Grand Rapids.
