LORIS, S.C. (AP) - Horry County Police say a woman who had 35 dogs on her property has surrendered 19 of them to authorities.

Area media outlets report police went to a home near Loris on Tuesday after receiving a complaint that someone was running a puppy mill.

That was not the case.

Police say it was just a 72-year-old woman with more dogs than she could properly care for and there were too many for the space on her property.

The woman agreed to give 19 of the dogs to authorities. They were transported to a local veterinarian where they were found to be worm-free and healthy.
