SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle police have called for an Amber Alert in their search for an abducted 23-month-old boy.

They say the mother of little Aaron Lopez reports that the boy’s father physically assaulted her Tuesday evening, took her purse and car keys and drove off with the boy in a silver 2003 BMW.

Detective Mark Jamieson says police spotted the car and tried to stop it by activating their lights and sirens. But they say the driver raced off recklessly and they stopped their pursuit, concerned that the child was not secured in his child safety seat.

Police say the father, 24-year-old Daniel Lopez-Andino, does not have custody rights.
