PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled right-hander A.J. Schugel from Triple-A Reno and placed catcher Gerald Laird on the 15-day disabled list with a lower-back spasms.
Laird went on the DL retroactive to April 9.
The 25-year-old Schugel went 6-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 26 starts with Double-A Mobile last year. He was acquired in a three-team trade in 2013 with the Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox.
The 35-year-old Laird made his Arizona debut on April 8 against San Francisco. He went 0 for 2 against the Giants and was slated to start on Saturday, but starter Tuffy Gosewich had to play against the Dodgers when Laird’s back flared up.
