BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The Boise school district is considering buying land to make way for future school expansion.

The Idaho Statesman reports (https://is.gd/X0S2Vv ) the Boise School Board is meeting Monday to consider its first land purchase in a decade.

School officials want to buy 57 acres about 3 miles south of Interstate 84 for $1.7 million. They have no immediate plans to build a school but note that as development ramps up in South Boise, they will need to add a school.

The site being considered could be used for an elementary, middle or high school.

Districts often buy land ahead of development. The West Ada School District, for example, will get $2 million from its school bond passed last month to buy land west of Ten Mile Road for a high school in advance of coming development.
