WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a crash involving an 18-wheeler shut down the eastbound lanes of the New York State Thruway in Cayuga County on Sunday afternoon.

Troopers say a preliminary investigation indicates a tractor trailer hauling groceries went off the highway and onto the shoulder and struck a tow truck assisting a motorist in a disabled vehicle.

The operator of the tow truck and the motorist in the disabled vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported to Auburn Community Hospital for evaluation. Troopers say the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

All eastbound traffic lanes between Exits 41 and 40 were briefly closed until around 2:30 p.m.
