KIRKLAND, Ill. (AP) - Some of the victims of deadly tornadoes that swept through northern Illinois last week spent Sunday at church services.

The Chicago Tribune reports (https://trib.in/1ynAwkG ) that the Rev. Kay Woo thanked those in the pews Sunday morning at Kirkland United Methodist Church. The town of Kirkland is just 5 miles east of Fairdale, where two people died in Thursday’s storms. Woo also expressed gratitude for members who chose to volunteer instead.

A half dozen pastors planned to gather at the church Sunday evening for a prayer service. Woo called it “an expression of the beginning of our long term care and support.”

The Rev. Tommy Creutz is a pastor at Harvest Bible Chapel in Elgin. He says he brought 20 volunteers from the suburban church.
