FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Aviation officials say a twin-engine Piper Navajo crashed into a nature preserve near Fort Lauderdale after declaring an emergency.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the woods north of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Division Chief Chantal Botting says crews put out the fire within minutes, but no one survived the crash.

The names of the victims have not been released.

Witnesses say the planed banked sharply before nose diving into the ground.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
