ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police say responders are trying to recover the body of a 31-year-old man who died in a fall from a cliff in Eklutna.

Police have identified the victim as Jamarus Spires of Anchorage. Police say the man’s girlfriend called 911 at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday to report her boyfriend had just fallen off the cliff as they walked on a trail near mile one of Eklutna Lake Road.

According to police, Spires fell several hundred feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the body recovery began Sunday, but was unsuccessful. Efforts to retrieve the body were resuming Monday.
