CLEVELAND (AP) - A task force with the Ohio auditor’s office is reviewing Cleveland schools’ failure to claim millions of dollars in federal rebates for technology upgrades.

A special audit task force with Ohio Auditor Dave Yost’s office will review the case this week after a Cleveland schools construction watchdog panel discovered the district missed out on about $8.5 million in pre-approved federal rebates for internet and communications equipment between 2006 and 2011. The panel found that $6.6 million of that $8.5 million gap wasn’t claimed.

A spokeswoman for the auditor tells The Plain Dealer (https://bit.ly/1FNMnYQ ) the task force will take a look at the case to determine if a state audit is appropriate.

Cleveland schools CEO Eric Gordon has promised to have an outside group review what went wrong with the rebates.
