PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities in north-central Arizona have released the name of man who was killed in the crash of a glider in Prescott Valley.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say 74-year-old Robert Bauman of Prescott died in Saturday afternoon’s crash.

They say he was piloting the glider.

The glider was launched while connected to a tow cable powered by a stationary winch, which pulls the glider up to speed while gaining altitude.

At some point during takeoff, authorities say Bauman appeared to lose control and descended rapidly.

There were several witnesses to the crash, but sheriff’s officials say the specific cause of the crash is unknown.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified of the incident and an investigation is ongoing.
