MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a suspicious fire outside a southeastern Michigan church damaged a section of vinyl siding on the building.

The Monroe News reports (https://bit.ly/1aILczg ) the fire happened Saturday at Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe County’s Monroe Township.

No one was injured. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The fire started in a heavy stone ash tray that was found behind the church. Initially, it was thought that the fire was accidentally started by a cigarette butt. Officials say, however, that the tray had been moved about 12-15 feet from its normal spot.

Fire investigator Calvin Schmidt says he and state police are investigating.
