FINCASTLE, Va. (AP) - Botetourt County election officials plan to count votes the old-fashioned way because of concerns about voting machines.

The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1D7YzTn ) reports that the county’s electoral board decided Friday to count votes by hand for the June 9 Republican primary. Only two precincts in the southern part of the county are involved because the primary is for the Republican nomination for a House of Delegates seat.

A recent state investigation raised serious security concerns about voting equipment used in about one-fifth of Virginia’s precincts, including those in Botetourt County.

A report on the investigation says the state Board of Elections should consider decertifying the WinVote touchscreen system and bar its use in future elections.
