CHESNEE, S.C. (AP) - The Spartanburg County town of Chesnee has a new policy that requires a mandatory $3 payment for most public records.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reports (https://bit.ly/1FCpPId ) that town council had been scheduled Monday to give final approval to a new policy on fees for documents that can be obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.

But Town Administrator Becki Hood says the item was removed because the policy was implemented by resolution, which only requires one vote by the council.

All public documents, except those legally required to be publicly available during normal business hours, will be subject to a minimum $3 fee. The price increases by 20 cents per page for more than 15 pages.

Hood says the South Carolina Municipal Association recommended the policy.
