MILTON, Vt. (AP) - A small plane that landed on a melting Lake Champlain in Vermont may not be removed from the water until the end of the week.
Two men aboard were practicing landing and taking off from the icy lake on Saturday. During a landing near Milton, the plane started to sink and couldn’t take off again. The men weren’t hurt and were able to walk to shore.
Raymond Donley of Donley’s Underwater Salvage tells the Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1NxOBCO) a crew has been working to remove the plane. He said its fuel tanks are sealed and still secure above water.
Donley said ice prevented crews from getting the plane close enough to shore. He said it’s going to be removed with a crane.
Donley doesn’t think the plane can be saved.
