BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Officials say a University of Colorado student was struck and killed by a freight train in California, where he was attending a music festival.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office says 23-year-old Jannik Andersen, of San Diego, was hit by the train just after 3 a.m. Saturday, about 4 miles from the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.

CU spokesman Ryan Huff tells the Daily Camera newspaper (https://goo.gl/mTA3wY ) that Andersen was a non-degree seeking Continuing Education student in Boulder.

Sgt. Deborah Gray with the Riverside County coroner’s office says it’s too soon to tell whether drugs or alcohol played a role in Andersen’s death.

Indio police and Union Pacific Railroad Police are investigating.
