LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - A fire that caused extensive damage to a Lewiston home and killed two cats is being blamed on improper use of a heater.
Fire Inspector Paul Ouellette says the fire that broke out at 20 Mason Ave. just before 10 a.m. Sunday was caused by improper use of a kerosene heater near combustible materials in the first floor hallway. The fire isn’t considered suspicious.
The fire caused heavy damage throughout the first floor with smoke and water damage throughout the remaining structure made the home a total loss.
No one was home when the two-alarm fire broke out but two pet cats died and a third is unaccounted for.
