HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaiian Humane Society plans to close its Honolulu dog park to make room for a planned expansion of its main facilities.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser newspaper (https://is.gd/GgZFWo) reports the closure is effective on Wednesday.

The planned expansion will include additional animal lodging, a larger veterinary clinic, adoption pods and a new admissions center.

The privately run dog park was established in 1999 and has become a popular stop for dog owners.

Five other dog parks on Oahu that remain are operated by the city.
