Headstone dedicated for newborn girl found dead in December in Indianapolis park

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A headstone has been dedicated at the grave of a newborn girl found dead last year in an Indianapolis park.

Linda Znachko with He Knows Your Name Ministries performed Saturday’s headstone dedication at Washington Park East Cemetery.

Indianapolis police found the newborn infant dead in December wrapped inside a blue sweatshirt with the logo “Aviation Maintenance Vincennes University-Indianapolis.”

Znachko tells WISH-TV (https://bit.ly/1D84vMj ) that after she heard about the child’s death she knew she had to help. She says “every life matters.”

Znachko arranged a funeral and named the infant Amelia. She was buried Jan. 17 at the cemetery in a grave that had been unmarked until Saturday.

Police are still investigating the baby’s death, which brought new attention to Indiana’s safe haven law.
