VASSALBORO, Maine (AP) - Maine state police say a 39-year-old Augusta, Maine, man suffered critical injuries in a motorcycle crash in Vassalboro in which he was not wearing a helmet.

Police say Andrew Olson suffered serious head injuries when his motorcycle went off the road and struck a wire attached to a utility pole on Sunday. Police say Olson lost control on a curve, and speed was a factor. The crash occurred at 3:45 p.m. just east of the Kennebec River.

Police say Olson was taken to MaineGeneral before he was transported to another hospital.
