AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a man is in custody in connection with a fatal stabbing at an Avondale trailer park.

Avondale police say 28-year-old Fernando Vega is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder, criminal trespassing and theft.

Vega was ordered held without bond at his initial court appearance Monday. He doesn’t have an attorney yet.

Police say Marcos Hernandez was stabbed in the chest at a trailer park Sunday afternoon and later pronounced dead at a hospital.

It’s unclear what triggered the incident but witnesses told police they heard Hernandez yell for help and saw him exit his trailer, clutching his chest.

A man was seen running from the scene. Police say Vega later was found in possession of a folding knife with dried blood on it.
